Questions about Construction Sealant ESS1

ESSVE answers frequently asked questions about our Construction Sealant ESS1.

What can you use Construction Sealant ESS1 for?

This is a universal product you can use for the majority of your sealing projects.

ESS1 is also CE marked for floors, facades, glass and wetrooms.

What is CE marking?

Construction products that are covered by a harmonised standard or European Technical Assessment (ETA) can only be sold if they have a Declaration of Performance and are CE marked.

The same rules apply in Sweden and other countries in the EU/EEA, Switzerland and Turkey.

There are four types of CE marking for sealant:

  • F – Facades/walls
  • PW – Floors and pedestrian walkways
  • G – Glazing e.g. windows
  • S – Sanitary joints/wetrooms

Sealant ESS1 is CE marked for all these four types, which means that the product is suitable for the area of use in accordance with the European standard established by consensus.

Our product developers wanted to make sure that ESS1 is the best choice for each of the four applications, so meeting the minimum requirements for each classification respectively was not enough – this product far exceeds the CE marking criteria.

Are there any materials you should NOT use ESS1 on?

ESS1 works on nearly all materials, with the exception of fatty plastics, such as PP, PE and PTFE.

Can Sealant ESS1 be used both outdoors and indoors?

Yes, you can use ESS1 both indoors and outdoors in temperatures between +5° and +40° Celsius.

This product is also approved for use in a food contact environment via ISEGA.

How long does it take for ESS1 to become a fully cured product?

Since ESS1 is a moisture-curing product, this depends on how humid the air is.

At 23°C and 50% relative humidity, the product cures at least 2.5mm/24h.

Where is Construction Sealant ESS1 registered?

This product is registered in:

  • BASTA
  • Nordic Ecolabelling Portal
  • Byggvarubedömningen
  • SundaHus

In addition, this product has an EC1+ certificate and is marked as not dangerous in accordance with the Classification, Labelling and Packaging (CLP) Regulation.

Is ESS1 paintable?

Yes, you can paint over all ESS1 varieties.

In which colours is Sealant ESS1 available?

The sealant is available in white, light grey, dark grey, black and semi-transparent.

The semi-transparent sealant is unique on the market: its milky tone is ideal for applications near windows or other places where the sealant should be as inconspicuous as possible.

Are there any other areas of use for this sealant besides the specified applications?

Its good bonding ability means Sealant ESS1 can be used as an adhesive for basic mouldings, toilets, hooks or door sills.

Which accessories do you need to be able to work with ESS1?

You need a cartridge gun adapted for 300ml tubes in order to apply ESS1.
We suggest our ESSVE Caulking Gun or Tack Gun, which has a higher power ratio.

Accessories such as our Sealant Application Tool Small, Sealant Application Tool Large and Sealant Smoother can also make your work easier.
We suggest you use our Cleaner Wipes for adjusting, wiping away excess or cleaning up spills.

If you need faster curing, we also recommend our Activator, which speeds up this process.

Is it possible to remove the sealant if you get it on your clothes/walls?

It is easy to remove uncured product with our Cleaner Wipes, preferably in combination with our Cleaning Spray. Mechanical cleaning will be necessary for cured product.

How do I recycle the empty packaging?

Since this product is not classified as dangerous goods, you can dispose of the empty packaging as plastic waste.
