Telecom case study

One of the world’s largest Telecom operators came to us with an assignment that at first glance seemed to be asking the impossible. They needed a screw that would increase their rate of production, was sufficiently strong and was also cost-effective. And, as so often in the Telecom sector, the fastening space was minimal.

The client’s production process is based on automated assembly stations, with small (usually M3 and M4) metal screws. But much of the production process still consists of manual assembly. Our profound expertise within the telecom sector, and our product and production technology know-how, enabled us to create a new screw, ESS-FORM, and a solution that satisfied our client’s apparently impossible requirements.

We used familiar technology in a whole new way to design our new screw. In order to satisfy the requirements for high clamping force and a high production rate, we had to create a screw that always mates perfectly and centres correctly. By securing the processes in the production phase, we have minimised the problem of hydrogen brittleness, at the same time as the surface treatment reduces friction. Our very flexible logistics solution also allowed us to solve the problem of production sites scattered all over the world.

Thanks to our understanding of the client’s situation and our telecom sector expertise, we were able to design ESS-FORM, a screw that was almost impossible, while the client was able to focus exclusively on its core business.
